Via the "Chestene-Weg" to Vitznau

If you look east from the balcony, you will see Vitznau. And how nice would it be to walk to Vitznau? But there you can see high red rock walls, which seem insurmountable. But it's quite doable 🙂

The hike starts directly at our apartment by following the Rigistrasse upwards. in the first sharp left turn, the hiking trail goes right away into the forest. Already after about 200m there is the first junction where you turn left in the direction of Vitznau and the way over a 'Chestene Weid' and through forest area further and further east slightly ascend the mountain. At the next signpost they follow the direction Vitznau again and there begins the exciting at this beautiful about 5km long hike. Because the path is getting steeper and steeper and also a bit more impassable. But don't worry, it is also easy to cope with with children.

The path leads through the rock bands and over two well-built steel stairs up to a beautiful alpine pasture. There is already the highest point of this hike. It's a perfect place for a picnic (at least that's what we thought), because there's even a nice wooden table to linger on.

Our surprise was great when we found less than 500 meters further down a great barbecue area with the most beautiful view in the direction of Weggis.

Fortunately, we did not eat our Cervelat cold before. So we made a nice fire without further ado, grilled the Cervelat before we took the descent to Vitznau under our feet well strengthened.

From Vitznau there are several ways to get back to Weggis. For example, by boat, or bus. Another great option is also with the cog railway up to rigi and then with the gondola down to Weggis. If you prefer to hike down rather than from Weggis up to our apartment, I recommend leaving the cog railway at the station 'Romiti Rock Gate' and making the descent over the rock gate.
